The story sort of starts in the middle and as it unfolds we start to find out all the history that has gone on before. We realize that Miranda crazes a certain relationship but at the same time she fears it as well. She has held a part of herself back from Mace. But Mace really cares for her and knows that it's time to push her and we see the strength that both of them are made of.
